It’s been such a busy few weeks at Woodland, we have had lots of visitors and the children have enjoyed lots of activities. Some of the children have written articles for the School Blog for you to enjoy!
Thursday the 9th of February was a fantastic day because we had a bee workshop going on in school. We played fun games and learned at the same time. We had a great time. We learned about the different kinds of bees. We also learnt that bees collect pollen from flowers and make it into honey, this also helps the plant to be pollinated. Mrs Oliver told us how to help bees by planting lots of flowers. She is going to come back to school and we are going to plant some flowers in our school garden.

The Northern Sinfonia
This week we watched The Northern Sinfonia play the music of Peter and the Wolf. It was streamed live from The Sage Gateshead. They told the story through the music and also by reading it. We did actions for the main characters of the story. It has inspired us to compose some music to tell the story of our paintings of the Viking lands and the magic tree.
This week the Owl class held an assembly showing our pupils about electricity and how we can help to save Antarctica and its wild animals living there. We can help by switching off computers, projectors and lights when we are finished with them. This can also help with stopping pollution.
It was a very fun experience and the assembly ran smoothly. Toby, Emily C and Harry did a PowerPoint. Sophie, Isaac, Nathan and George did some posters to show the rest of the school. Emily G and Grace wrote a short play with Isaac, Sophie and Emily C being their actors. Grace and Emily G were the narrators. A song was also featured in the assembly which was written by Evan, Joseph T and Joseph C.
Emma Bishop from Oases comes into schools to explain about energy saving and pollutionand helped us prepare for the assembly.
Part of the assembly explained how there is over 200 schools in County Durham and over 20, 000 in the United Kingdom. If we do our bit and every other school does theirs we can make a big impact. The song was based on Human by Rag n Bone Man. It gave the message clearly and everyone was singing it for the rest of the day.
