This week we had a visit from John and Jen who are historians at the Oriental Museum in Durham. They came to school to help us learn about the Ancient Egyptians. John worked with the Badger Class and Jen with the Owls. We started by looking at what it looks like inside a mummy . We looked at an x-ray. We then found out how to mummify a body, including how to remove the organs. We then mummified Pharoah Charlotte and we became Gods. We neededed to decide where Pharoah Charlotte should be sent in the afterlife. We had to ask her questions about things she had said and done while she was alive. We decided she must go to Duat (Ancient Egyptian Hell!) because she had not always been good. She was eaten by Ammit the soul eater. After that we looked at real Ancient Egyptian artefacts and we had to answer questions about they were made of and what they might have been used for. At the end John told us what each one was. We had a really brilliant morning and we learned so much about Ancient Egypt ready for September when this will be our history topic.
