Owl Class 2015-2016

Welcome to Owl Class

owlWe are Owl Class and we are a mixture of Year 5 & 6 children. Our Teachers are Mrs Fowell and Mrs Carr. Mrs Bentley also works with us.

Find out more about Our Curriculum by downloading our maps and timetables.

Summer Topics

This terms topic allows Owl Class to combine the fascinating history of the Ancient Greeks with the exciting culture and ecosystem of Brazil. We will be comparing the modern and ancient Olympics and studying the lives of men, women and children in Ancient Greece and their influence on the modern world. Looking at Brazil, the host nation for the Olympics this year, will help us to look at the adaptation of plants and animals to suit different environments, (comparing British woodland and Amazonian rain forest inhabitants). We will also be using the Olympic athletes as our inspiration to look at the human circulatory system and the impact diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle have on the way our bodies function.

Spring Topics

This term our Topic is called Ingenious Inventions.  We will be looking at how inventions and inventors have changed and shaped our world, what inventions have had the most impact to us and what we would like to invent to help us in the future.   We will be looking in depth at the stories of some inventions and inventors, such as Alexander Graham Bell and George Stephenson. The latter of which will provide us with inspiration for a local history project on the Darlington Stockton Railway. In Science we will be looking at the invention of electricity, how to build circuits and combining D.T. to make models which move and/or light up. To celebrate our learning we will hold workshops for parents to experience our activities and share some of our own Ingenious Inventions in front of a ‘Dragons Den’ style panel of local community members!
