Spring Topic
Our topic this term is ‘Ingenious Inventions’ where we will be investigating inventions that have changed the world. Obviously, we will be looking closely at the rich local history of trains and railways culminating in a trip to Locomotion. We are also continuing our involvement in the Norman Cornish Community Art project (led by The Bowes Museum) with a visit from Vicky Holborough (a local artist) and a trip to Palace Green. We will read novels with a theme of inventions and we will research and produce biographies about famous inventors. Linking design Technology and science we will take part in a Lego experience day.
Autumn Topic
Our topic this term is ‘All Things Magic’ and something quite magical has happened in our classroom… Over a year ago a mysterious suitcase appeared in our cupboard containing a letter from a girl called Norma who encouraged us to be brave and curious and took us on a journey of discovery, leading to an amazing project about Turkish Tulips alongside the Bowes Museum. Well that suitcase has magically reappeared and brought us more information about Norma as well as books and poems with a magical theme, (The Nowhere Emporium, The Secret of Platform 13, The Magic Box etc). We will be using these to link into many subjects as you can see in our topic web and hoping that Norma continues to write back! Alongside this we are continuing our Food Technology with a magical twist this term, we will be making tasty delights such as ‘colour changing soup’, vegetable dragon claws and Enchanted Forest Tree bark!
We are also taking part in some exciting projects with Bowes Museum, visiting their Nick Sharratt exhibition, exploring LEGO WEDO coding programme and becoming involved with their Norman Cornish community art project.
