Autumn Topic

This term our whole school topic is Explorers. We are starting off our topic by “Exploring me” ,looking at ourselves, our bodies, our families and our homes. As part of this work we will look at how the children have changed from babies to now and look forward to how they imagine themselves as grown ups. During the first half term we will be reading excerpts from the BFG by Roald Dahl and through this book we will be discovering snozzcumbers in the mud kitchen and making dreamcatchers in design technology.

Our trip to Durham cathedral and walks around Woodland are planned to compare the two locations, and find out the similarities and differences. In RE we will be looking at signs and symbols within Woodland church and Durham cathedral. We will also be celebrating Autumn festivals from different cultures such as Divali. In the second half term our focus turns more to learning about famous explorers in the past and our story of “Stick man” will lead us from Autumn adventures into Christmas.
